Modern Christening Trends
for Baby's Baptism
Christening / baptism gowns for babies
are traditional and still very popular. Though the days
when mother labored with a needle and thread for weeks
or months creating a one-of-a-kind gown are nearly gone,
beautiful styles are available for everyone.
They
do change with the times, of course, as fashion and personal preferences
change from time to time. Many new designs reflect current style trends and have become
quite a bit more innovative while the truly heirloom
classics are definitely still available.
What
is the modern baby wearing for Christening / Baptism
these days?
Christening / baptism styles
range from the very traditional gowns to more contemporary dresses and suits.
Gowns
are for both baby girls and boys alike. However, there is a new trend
towards specifically more "masculine"
designs for boys. Adorable little sailor suits, knicker suits, rompers and even
tuxedos are also available for baby boys.
The convertible Christening gown is
a terrific new invention that provides the traditional
gown and suit in one. It is a long or
short-legged romper with a skirt that buttons at the waist. This makes it easy
to convert from a gown to romper and back to gown again quickly. It is
especially designed for dads who don't want to see their baby boy in a "dress!"
Traditional christening gowns and christening dresses are used for girls.
These can be of varying lengths depending on the parent's personal taste and
how formal the event may be. While long gowns
of 32" to 36" and even longer are still in fashion, shorter
gowns of 24-28" in length are available as
well. The shorter gowns are frequently called
"daygowns" and are roughly only toe-tip length.
These are ideal for the very informal baptism.
They can also be used after a formal ceremony at the
party when baby is being passed from person to person.
Changing baby into a different, more informal gown or
precious Christening Dress or romper for this part of the day
will save the gown for the future and make baby much
more comfortable, too.

Silk is the #1 choice for Christening
right now. It is always off-white to nearly cream
in color and most people are leaning this way rather than bright white
these days. That's not to say that bright white is passe
in any way! It's all a matter of personal preference.
Many parents have found that silk wrinkles a lot
less than cotton and the off-white or ivory color is very pleasing with most
complexions.
Whether it is for a christening or baptism ceremony, the baby's
gown or suit is treasured by families and kept as a family heirloom, often
passing it down through the generations. Rest assured that The Perfect Pear
cares about your baby's special day and has only the best quality apparel so
your baby looks beautiful!
With that in mind, we offer an "Heirloom Preservation
Bag," to ensure your baby's gown is protected against dust, dirt, light, and
chemical contamination and so it will be perfect for your baby's christening or
baptismal ceremony. Click on Christening
