First Communion
- Veil Trends
Headpieces
are still worn by almost every girl making her First
Communion today but styles are definitely changing!
Traditionally
a Communion veil was "like a bride" and would be
a tiara-like headpiece with a full fountain of veiling.
This is often still worn and
highly desirable in many locations and cultures and
would still be especially suited to dresses from our
Traditional
Communion Dresses Department.
But a more
modern trend is emerging.
The
emphasis now is for a Communion headpiece or veil with far less in
the child's face. Veiling is worn more to the back
of the head -
if worn at all. You see, not all children wear
a Communion
veil today. We estimate that nearly 25-30% of
girls making their First Communion across the United
States will not wear a veil.
Instead, they
will wear a pretty bow, headband or a tiara without
a veil. The style is still very dressy but not
"little bride" as much any more.
A
style that is conservatively traditional and always
acceptable would be a lovely wreath, which looks good
on pretty much every girl. A barrette
with veiling in back looks great with long hair
with some pulled back and can be worn at the crown or
nape of the neck. Bows on barrettes with veiling are
also very popular.
These
styles
are all excellent choices and available in our
Headpieces
Department.
Some
actually are the best of both worlds because they come
with detaching veil!
